Interview with Federica: empathy and passion for a positive and stimulating educational environment

Federica isPYP Librarian – Teacher at the Kinder International School in Bologna. With a career path enriched by varied and meaningful experiences, she has developed a deep passion for teaching and education. In this interview we explore her inspirations, key moments in her journey, the challenges and rewards of her work, and her dreams and principles for the future of the school community.

The inspiration behind Federica’s career

Federica found inspiration for her career during a work experience at the Pratello juvenile prison. Here she met kids who, in addition to living in unstable family conditions, lacked passions and stimuli that could motivate them. This observation led her to reflect on the importance of the educational role and of teaching as tools to awaken interests and passions in children. Through her work, Federica aims not only to facilitate learning, but also to build self-esteem and discovery of individual talents in young people.

Moments that have marked Federica’s professional path

Federica identifies two key moments that have transformed her professional and personal path:

1. Teaching to foreign children: for several years, Federica has taught Italian to foreign children to support them in integrating into their classes. The academic and personal success of these students has marked an important change in her career, strengthening her belief in the transformative power of education.

2. Synergetic work: in more recent times, Federica has had the opportunity to work more with colleagues, with whom she has shared projects and ideas. This has highlighted the importance of working in an environment of full synergy and feeling, enriching the professional path with exchanges of ideas and creativity, and significantly improving results.

The most rewarding part of Federica’s work in an international school

For Federica, the most rewarding aspect of her work is the contact with colleagues and children from different cultures. This continuous enrichment through the exchange of opinions, ideas, working methods, thoughts and emotions, contributes to personal growth and an open mind that is fundamental for everyone, both adults and children.

Federica’s dreams for the school

Federica has two main dreams for the school:
1. A smaller dream: to create a classroom where continuous discussion is possible, where staff, students and teachers can talk, exchange opinions, clarify and find the serenity needed to carry out new projects, at any time of day.

2. A bigger dream: to expand the name of Kinder International School Bologna internationally, opening branches in other countries. This would allow them to spread their educational and cultural approach, creating school and life paths in different parts of the world.

Federica’s message for the school community

Federica wants the school community to remember the importance of being empathetic and expressing emotions and passions. She firmly believes that empathy and passion are essential to create a positive and stimulating educational environment, capable of positively impacting the life of every member of the community.
