Learning while playing an instrument!
Music is an integral part of our School, just as it is an integral part of life. Knowing how to play an instrument or simply appreciating music is a gift: music is emotion, discipline, concentration, pleasure and sharing.
In order to make our students discover music we organize a music laboratory where students can try their hand at different instruments: drums, the electric guitar, the bass guitar and keyboards. During this first phase, while a teacher familiarizes the students with the instruments, learning is «sheer enthusiasm».
In the following phase the students will be able to choose either the instrument they like best or they will be able to choose singing as their specialty. Subsequently they will join the «Kinder band», small groups that perform during the school’s Musical Afternoon. Performing is a great joy for the students and it’s also a strong incentive to study hard.
The more theoretical aspects of music, such as history or the musical genres, are also explored during music hours. However, we like to make theory «come alive». We like having different musical experiences by taking our students to the dress rehearsals of concerts and operas, contextualizing the event and preparing the students for the musical and narrative content of the concert. We have joined the project Europa InCanto, a project that brings opera to the schools and involves the students by telling them the plot of the opera and making them perform as the chorus during a show.
