Interview with Ron: the discovery of a vocation

Ron is an English and Drama Teacher at Kinder International School Bologna. He discovered his passion for education almost by accident. He has had many experiences that have led him to cultivate a deep commitment to his students and a unique vision of the school community. Here is his story.

Discovering a Calling

Ron says that the beginning of his career was completely unexpected. While living in Maine, he volunteered to chaperone a middle school class on a field trip to the mountains of New Hampshire, without knowing anyone. “I didn’t know that leading and inspiring kids was the ‘missing piece’ I was looking for and that I finally found,” he says.

9/11 and the Responsibility to Inform and Protect

The events of September 11, 2001 are etched in Ron’s memory. That day, the school principal approached him, believing he was the best person to explain to the students the geopolitical significance of the unfolding tragedy. “I remember the whole school coming into my classroom, and we had a deep conversation about what we were seeing, working through our emotions.” It was a time when he felt a great responsibility, trying to keep the kids both informed and safe.

The Joy of Sharing Culture and Stories

Ron finds great satisfaction in sharing his culture and background with students, while also helping new students and families appreciate the local culture. “I love having cultural exchanges and sharing our favorite family stories,” he says, noting how much these exchanges help build bonds and understanding.

A Vision for a School Built on Collaboration

Looking to the future, Ron envisions a school where everyone can contribute their passions, creating a close-knit and supportive community. “I don’t like the idea of trying to be as another school or being in competition. I prefer to focus on our strengths, which I think families will really appreciate.”

The Importance of Teamwork

Ron is willing to give his best, but it requires commitment from everyone. “I’m ready to pull the rope, and we all have to row together, towards the same goal. I will do my best to do my part as a team member,” he concludes.
